About Us

A tradition

After going to many weddings in sunny Croatia (because my father was Croatian) I became accustomed to a tradition of giving each guest a buttonhole.

At the wedding, usually during the day, you are given a buttonhole, often by the bride’s girlfriends, and they are to be worn on the day and taken home as a reminder of the day. I kept mine. After visiting a few friends I found that they too had kept theirs and many others they had collected; they could be found on their dressing table, their make up mirror or even on the dresser in the living room. I realised that just like when young girls dream about their wedding dress or even Prince Charming they also day-dream about their buttonhole.

Love and memories

When you see the wedding party wander through the town you know that they are enjoying a special day because they are all wearing their buttonholes. By wearing your buttonhole at the wedding you are part of the decoration. It is a small gift and it has been hand-picked by the bride so you will know which wedding you went to, what it meant to you and what a great day you had.

When my boyfriend would go to weddings which I was unable to attend, I would always be given this flower as a gift. Father’s give them to their little girls when they wake up, husbands to their wives, boys to girls and girls to boys. They symbolize a flower but they can be kept forever, and there will be a buttonhole in someones treasure box whatever their age and whatever their gender that means something to them.

A wedding favour

It is our aim to bring this tradition that can only be translated into English as what we better know as a wedding favour. It was when I made 160 buttonholes for my own sister’s wedding in England that I could see the smiles on the guests’ faces and realised that it helps bring people into the event, helps them feel welcome. They knew they were at a wedding and it resounded the next day when they had to remove the flower from their clothes. From visiting these guests in the aftermath of a fantastic evening I was very much surprised to see that they were somewhere on display in their homes and that without even a mention of the story above they had kept their buttonhole.

Memories of Greek weddings

Lydia and I have been friends for 20 years and have experienced many special days together, which has lead us to wanting to provide experiences for others on their special days! Lydia’s father was Croatian and my father is Greek and this means I have also been to many Greek weddings! They also have a particular type of wedding favour which makes each wedding special and memorable to each and every guest. Combining both our experiences and memories ensures that every Boutique ButtonHole will recieve the attention to detail and care that every person deserves on their special day and every guest will keep forever.
